RVCOG's Planning Department covers land use planning, transportation planning and community involvement. As a support to the Planning Department and to the rest of the RVCOG and other member jurisdictions, Geographic Information Systems (GIS) provides mapping and data services.
Land Use Planning
The program staffs current planning and long-range planning projects for the local governments
in Jackson and Josephine Counties. Examples of services the program provides include developing planning or zoning ordinance amendments, coordinating periodic review, and managing special studies.

Transportation Planning
As the designated Metropolitan Planning Organization for the Rogue Valley (RVMPO), RVCOG
is responsible for preparation of the regional transportation plan. This responsibility includes providing technical modeling of the transportation system to local governments; facilitating the interaction of federal, state, and local agencies dealing with transportation issues; managing the analysis and process for maintaining conformity with federal air quality standards; preparation of financial analysis and project programming; and providing opportunities for public involvement.
Current Projects
Community Development
Community Development assists member jurisdictions, as well as other RVCOG departments, with the development and implementation of public involvement processes required for a broad array of technical, planning projects in our region. These projects range from transportation and water resources to planning for special populations, such as the frail elderly. The department assists communities with local assessments, public outreach, strategic planning, and special projects. The department coordinates multi-jurisdictional projects and provides grant writing and grant administration services to member jurisdictions. The department coordinates grant requests to funding sources, helping to obtain the best match for a community's needs.
Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Services
GIS Services provides mapping and data support to the Planning Department, as well as providing support to other RVCOG departments upon request. Specialized GIS services are also offered to RVCOG member jurisdictions and other organizations on a contract basis.
