Whetstone Creek Restoration Plan
In October 2010, the Bear Creek Watershed Council (BCWC) applied for a Technical Assistance grant from the Oregon Watershed Enhancement Board (OWEB) for Technical Assistance funds to develop a Whetstone Creek Restoration Plan. The grant was drafted jointly by RVCOG staff with the assistance of BCWC. The grant was awarded to BCWC in March 2011.
This project assembled a stakeholder/advisory team, prepared an assessment of the lower Whetstone Creek corridor from Whetstone Pond in the ODFW Denman Wildlife Area downstream to the confluence with the Rogue River, and developed a set of recommendations for future restoration projects focusing on this area. OWEB funds were used to convene and coordinate the stakeholder/advisory team, analyze conditions in the Whetstone watershed, prepare information to allow the committee to select and prioritize restoration activities, and prepare a final report as a foundation for future targeted restoration actions.
